Burnley Work Inspiration Fair 2013
Thomas Whitham Sixth Form
Friday 1 March 2013
The Work Inspiration event aims to inspire, challenge misconceptions and to show students the huge range of businesses and jobs available locally. The event is aimed at students in year 9.
Work Inspiration is not a traditional careers fair. Students will not wander around unaccompanied and they will not be collecting handouts and brochures from people standing behind tables.
The businesses taking part have all been briefed on how to demonstrate what they do using interactive displays and engaging students in games, quizzes and activities. Effectively, we are taking students on a guided tour around the area’s businesses.
Businesses at the event will be grouped into 6 zones: Creative & Media, Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, Public Services, Business Services, Construction & Sustainability, Retail & Leisure (including Food & Beverage).
Up to 80 students will enter each zone at the start of the session. They will then have 20 minutes to find out more about the businesses in that sector.
Throughout the event we will be collecting data on the jobs, companies and activities which interest the students so that we can arrange targeted follow-up activities at each school as appropriate.
We will provide you with data based on student feedback throughout the event, feedback from the businesses and also feedback from school staff who attend the event.
