Rugby Update
The year 9 rugby season is well under way. Last week Unity College played Canon Slade High School from Bolton. The players had not played together and we had several new players joining the team. After two good training sessions we still found it difficult to get a grip on the game. Poor positioning and missed tackles let us down in defence. Eventually Canon Slade ran out worthy 0 - 53 winners but we knew we were not as bad as the scoreline suggested.

On Monday the team travelled to Blackburn Rugby Club to take part in the Ribble Valley League. The first game was a bit of a baptism of fire where we played Derwen Vale, of Blackburn. Their players were quite rough and undisciplined and did not play like gentlemen, preferring to try to swear and fight. Even when we were three tries down we did not give up and they really did not like it when Callum White touched down to score after Joe Burtons good work chasing down a kick. Our second game was against QEGS who played some good rugby. A tough contest saw us draw with two tries each, one scored by Peter Brindley and the other by Declan Edwards although only a last ditch challenge by a QEGS played prevented a flying Mr. Burton from adding to our scoreline. We finally displayed some good, tough tackling with Korben Roseby and his bloodthirsty pack leading the way. Special mention should go to our super sub Matthew Pollard from Year 8 who has represented Unity in both Year 9 fixtures, well done Matthew!

The next game Unity College have is a round robin tournament in the Ribble Valley League which we will host on Monday the 26th September. Games will kick off on 2 - 3 pitches at around 4.15 - 4.30pm. Any Year 8 who would like to play, see Mr. Williams. Any Year 7 who feels confident enough to play should also make yourself known (there were a few cracking players at training last night!).
Everyone is welcome to come and watch.
