Mock Trial

Guilty or Not Guilty?

Thirteen students from Year 9 took part in a Mock Trial competition at Burnley Magistrates Court on Saturday 6th March.

The trial was that of a knife crime, where a young person, who is part of a gang, is arrested after having a fight with a member of a rival gang in a local park. During a routine search of his clothing a knife is found by the police officer and he is charged with possession of a bladed instrument.

Our students took the parts of lawyers, legal advisor, witnesses, magistrates and the court usher.

There were four schools taking part.  Although the team from Unity were runners up, individual prizes were awarded to Jack Herbert, for being the best prosecution lawyer, and Chris Cozens, for being the best defendant.

Well done to all the team - you did Unity proud!
