This week we invited the RAF, The Royal Navy and BAE Systems to college to talk to year 7 and year 8 students. We found out that only 10% of the engineers in the UK work force are female! The Unity College Science department want to inspire all of our students to be the very best they can be, especially if they can have really great careers in science and engineering! We would love to get more of our female students interested careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Firstly we explored the world of drones, the technology behind them and the multifarious uses that they are currently put to and their possible uses for the future. Then in part two we focused on computing and control systems that all modern technology is built around. Fun creative demonstrations helped to demystify the subject for students and help embed learning that they will encounter in school. The final part of the show featured a very special robot and students were given the chance to pitch their wits against her.
We would like to thank the presenter, BAE systems, The Royal Navy and the RAF for coming to talk to us.
