Safer Internet Day 2013

Respect

Safer Internet Day (SID) is celebrated in nearly 100 countries around the world in February of each year. In Europe, 30 countries mark the day with support from the European Commission's Safer Internet Programme. SID is coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people.

Safer Internet Day 2013 - the tenth anniversary of Safer Internet Day - will take place on Tuesday 5 February, around the theme 'Online Rights and Responsibilities' and under the slogan 'Connect with respect'.

We will be planning some events for Safer Internet Day, 5th February, here at Unity. Until then, why not take a look at the Safer Internet Day website which has lots of resources to help you stay safe online including:

  • Digizen game - Create your own character and experience a day at school with the main character from the Let’s Fight It Together film.
  • A practical help guide for young people who are worried about images or videos they have taken of themselves or others which are available on the internet
  • A film about one young person's experience of cyberbullying
  • A facebook checklist to help you stay safe using the privacy settings on Facebook. This is also displayed on the eSafety noticeboard on Broadway. If you would like a copy of this so that you can check your Facebook privacy settings at home just ask Mrs Brice.
  • An internet safety IQ test - test your knowledge about how safe you are online.
