A group of students from Unity College have recently achieved recognition for their sports leadership skills. The group have been staying behind after college every week preparing and planning a sports session for pupils in Year 2 at Brunshaw Primary School. The students from Unity were responsible for the entire session, including deciding which warm-ups and races would take place, organising equipment, leading the session and even designing and creating the certificates which the primary school children received at the end of the session.
The aim of the project was to raise students’ self esteem and confidence and all of the students taking part demonstrated that the project was a huge success. Burnley School Games Co-ordinator, Helen Tyson, awarded all of the students a certificate in leadership and was extremely complimentary about the leadership skills demonstrated by the Unity students. Students were praised for their leadership skills, organisation skills and their positive interaction with the younger children.
As a reward for the hard work and commitment demonstrated by the students they will be going on a special reward trip to Blackpool Tower.
