Unity College U12 (Year 7) vs Clitheroe Grammar School (Year 8)

On Monday the 27th February 2012 Clitheroe Grammar school were the only team to attend the pre-arranged Ribble Valley Schools year 8 tournament which we host. Although there were supposed to be about 7 teams we were very happy that Clitheroe turned up for a full match.

Despite having only 4 year 8's and having a years difference between our players and theirs we made it slightly more difficult by injuring our own prop in the build up and also an in game clash led to our biggest and strongest player, Lewis Conroy, leaving the contest early. That left us with Polly Bell, Kayley Priestly and Harley Hadzik as our only year 8's. We also fielded several debutants in year 7 who took part in their first ever game of rugby. Corey Bellamy, Kasim Amin, Kyle Carter and Jack Hope played with passion and courage.

Despite trailing 0 - 15 at half time the team were doing well and in the second half pressurised the Clitheroe try line for the majority of the time. Cameron Leech and Polly Bell came within meters of scoring! A breakaway try for Clitheroe turned out to be the only score due to the ferocious nature of Unitys' tackling.

All in all a very promising game for our emerging team. Training is every Tuesday, rain, shine or hurricanes and each year group have 1 - 2 fixtures remaining for anyone else thinking of having a go at a challenging yet rewarding activity.
