Ever wondered what it is like to travel to Japan? Or indeed, live there for a year?

On Friday 29th January, Year 9 students were treated to presentations from UCLAN students who had done just that. The aim of the presentations was to highlight to students, in advance of choosing their GCSE options, the advantages of continuing with the study of a Modern Foreign Language. One UCLAN student described how he was currently studying Japanese and Accountancy. He explained that, initially, he had not wanted to study languages at university. However, because he had kept his options open in Year 9 and chosen to study German, when he decided his university course, he was able to start Japanese ab-initio. He showed photos of his year abroad in Japan, which the students found very interesting. The second student was studying Spanish. She also talked about the advantages of studying a Language, including how it can open up more extensive job and travel opportunities. The students found the presentations very informative. Indeed, they have further inspired some to continue with the study of a Language to GCSE level, here at Unity College.
