It has been a busy week for Unity College rugby. On Monday 16 of the year 8 squad attended the RUFFS League at Blackburn. Beating St. Augustines comfortably before a narrow loss to Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QUEGS). Our final game saw Mr. Williams throw tactics out of the window against Blessed Trinity for a narrow loss but maybe there is some psychology in there somewhere for a future fixture......

Tuesday saw our year 9 squad join up with the retired year 10 players for a pitch 'n play event at Burnly rugby club. We provided 20 players and had to mix teams for the final games to make it fair.

A superb turn out at boys training on Tuesday led to selection problems for the year 7 squad to play their first fixture on Thursday. The lads travelled to Blackburn RUFC to play in their first RUFFS League friendly. A 4 try to nil loss agains Clitheroe Grammar school was followed by a well earned draw versus St. Wilfs. We were unable to play St. Augustines due to a lack of time but all 20 players represented the school well through their tackling and enthusiasm.

Girls had their first training session on Thursday thanks to Mrs. Hudson and Mr. Finan as Mr. Williams was at the RUFFS fixture. Helping to train the girls this year are several Unity College senior players who also represent Burnley Town and Lancashire.

Finally......

New rugby kit

Unity College have recieved their first new kit as part of the ALL Schools funding programme which is provided by the RFU. The year 8's squeezed into them for an amusing photoshoot on Friday. See the results for yourself!

Next week 4 students will be going to Burnley rugby club to design a brand new Unity College rugby shirt which will be worn at Twickenham by the successful student. Good luck to all you budding rugby artists!
